Young people in Angus have the chance to become modern apprentices (MA) with Angus Council, with 14 vacancies available in various roles and departments.
The council is currently advertising eight modern apprentice vacancies with roles in building standards, occupational health and safety, organisational development, active schools, accountancy, IT and school supports at Arbroath High School and Grange Primary School. The remaining six vacancies (five gardeners and one mechanic) will be advertised from the start of June.
The modern apprenticeships vacancies are for16-19-year-olds (20-29-year-olds for disabled and care-experienced applicants) living in Angus and give young people the chance to learn key skills, gain valuable experience and learning by completing a relevant qualification while earning a salary.
Angus Council Leader, Beth Whiteside, said: “I’m delighted we can continue our commitment to creating opportunities for our young people in Angus as they get ready to leave school or start their career journey with these modern apprenticeship vacancies. They give young people a fantastic opportunity to join the council, develop new skills, earn a salary while gaining valuable insight into the work being done to make Angus a great place to live.
“If you know a young person who’s looking to make their next career move then please help us spread the word about these vacancies.”
Stevi Stewart who’s currently a modern apprentice with the council said: “I was interested in going into HR during my time at school so seeing a position available in the council seemed like a good way to get some experience in the area and hopefully give me better opportunities when applying for future jobs. I have really enjoyed my apprenticeship so far; my team and mentor are all very supportive and always lend a hand if I need it. There is a large variety of jobs to do within the area I work and there is always a new learning opportunity for me to try.”
Eight of the vacancies are live on the MyJobScotland website with the five gardener and mechanic vacancies advertised from the beginning of June. Start dates are expected to be early August 2022 with training commencing September/October 2022.
