Live Better, Longer Event, Reid Hall, Forfar – 11 May 2023 09:30 -13:00

Written by on 20/04/2023

The Angus Prevention and Proactive Care Programme Group are committed to working with communities of Angus and a wide range of stakeholders to increase healthy life expectancy and reduce health inequalities.

In Angus we have taken inspiration from projects around the world to improve people’s health and wellbeing but want to get your views as one of our key stakeholders on how to take this forward.

Purpose/Background:

We want to tackle the various conditions that cause ill health and help people to age well and add healthy years to life. In Angus we know 22% of the population in Southeast compared to 19% of Scotland population are on medication for anxiety, depression or psychosis. We also know that Angus has a higher fall admission rate than Scotland.

As an example, there continues to be a real gap between life expectancy for those living in the poorest neighbourhoods of Angus where men can live approximately nine years less and women three years less than those living in the least deprived areas of Angus.

We would like to improve the health and wellbeing of people in Angus at scale and pace.

Why come to this event?

The aim of the event is to bring together stakeholders and Angus residents to share thoughts and ideas on how we can jointly make this better. This highly interactive event will take place in the form of a World Café. A World Café allows for a mix of people with different ideas and experiences to think about complex issues and think of imaginative ways forward. Small groups of participants will move around stations and will have the opportunity to discuss/listen to an open discussion on set topics at each station.
