Brae Riding for the Disabled seeks volunteers
Written by Malcolm Finlayson on 19/04/2023
We are an independent charity affiliated to the Riding for the Disabled Association. We provide
equine therapy for children and adults living with disabilities and illness. The benefits for our
participants are huge! For example improved core strength, balance, coordination,
communication, confidence, posture, flexibility, social interaction, good fun and generally a total
sensory and mindful experience being with such wonderful animals.
We are open Tuesday to Friday 8.30am to 4.30pm and Saturday mornings 8.30 – 1.00pm with
riding sessions every morning and other activities such as carriage driving and groundworks in the
afternoons.
To do this we need an army of volunteers, particularly in the mornings, to bring the horses in from
the fields, groom and get them ready for work, help with leading and side helping in lessons, stable
jobs and see to the fields with poo-picking and other duties. It can be hard work and very muddy at times, but
the benefits for our volunteers are equally rewarding: such as working with horses, making a
difference to others, keeping fit, learning new skills and making new friends.
We will provide full training so no experience required, just a bucket full of enthusiasm and
commitment.
If you are interested in finding out more please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Suzanne
Fillingham on 07885 851881 or go to our website Brae.org.uk to download an application form and send it in to
us.
