Heartstart Discovery is running free two-hour emergency life support training sessions for the public throughout November.
Being able to perform emergency life support, a set of actions needed to keep someone alive until professional help arrives, gives a casualty the best possible chance of survival.
It only takes two hours to learn the skills which may save a life and it is very likely that the person you help may be a family member or someone close to you.
The courses are free and no medical knowledge is required in order to undertake one. All you have to do is choose a date that suits you and then contact Helen Brady, Heartstart Discovery Co-ordinator to book your place on the course.
In the sessions you will learn how to recognise the signs and symptoms of a heart attack and how to deal with it, caring for an unconscious person who is breathing and caring for an unconscious person who is not breathing as well as experience performing CPR on a mannequin.
In addition the course also covers defibrillators and their use in emergency situations and how they work.
There are lots of opportunities across Tayside to learn this life skill with courses taking place in Dundee, Perth, Forfar, Montrose and Arbroath throughout November.
November course dates are:
Dundee – Friday, 4 November 2 – 4pm
Forfar – Thursday, 17 November 2 – 4 pm
Perth – Saturday, 19 November 10am -12 noon
Dundee – Wednesday, 23 November 6.30 – 8.30 pm
