You can now download a nomination pack from the Council’s Community Council Elections 2022 webpages, or contact the Election Team, Digital Reprographics Unit, Sylvie Way, Orchardbank Business Park, Forfar, DD8 1AY, tel: 01307 492070, email elections@angus.gov.uk
To become a Community Councillor you must be at least 16 years old, on the electoral roll and resident within the community council area.
Community Councils make a wide range of activities possible and promote the well-being of local people. They bring local people together to help make things happen locally. Many of them work tirelessly to protect and promote the identity of their community.
They advise, petition, influence and advocate numerous causes and concerns on behalf of their neighbours and townspeople.
Community Councils can thrive through youth and experience and by being representative of the people they serve.
Community councils in Angus have and continue to –
• Carry out projects to enhance their community for people
of all ages and background, including the elderly, young
people, single mums, minority groups, and others.
• Deliver community newsletters and distribute notices.
• Carry out local surveys (Local Development Plan).
• Campaign on local issues.
• Highlight infrastructure issues such as potholes, dropped
kerbs.
• Organise community events at all times of the year.
A Community Council is a voluntary organisation set up by statute by the Local Authority and run by local residents to act on behalf of its area. As the most local tier of elected representation, Community Councils play an important role in local democracy.
This official status provides them with the strongest platform for local people to get involved in local matters. They can provide a good understanding of the workings of local government and what is going on locally and nationally.
Community engagement, planning and partnership plays an ever-increasing role in the co-delivery of local services.
Nominations must be lodged with the Returning Officer (Community Council Elections) at the Election Team address above by no later than 4pm on Wednesday 31 August 2022.
If the number of nominations received exceeds the maximum permitted membership for any Community Council area, an election will be held within a week from Wednesday 3 October 2022.
The role played by your community council is more important than ever. So why not be part of it? It’s your community, so let your voice be heard.
