Carnoustie Sports Centre Spin class are holding a 24 hour ‘Pedal for Pounds’ event to raise funds for local causes on Friday 15 March.
ANGUSalive instructor Bruce Whamond who leads the class, decided to raise funds for Beth Greig and Maggie’s Dundee. Bruce’s idea quickly evolved into a relay with his class participants who wanted to help to keep the pedals turning.
Beth Greig is a local swimmer for GB Down Syndrome Swim Team. She also donates her time to volunteering with ANGUSalive by assisting a swim coach at Forfar Community Campus. Beth self-funds her travels to competitions and events and monies raised through the 24-hour challenge will help her to continue to do something she loves.
Bruce Whammond said: “What started out as crazy idea of doing a 24hr cycle snowballed into a great opportunity to do something that could really make a difference to someone and their family. I believe in the philosophy that the little things that we do can make a big difference if we all do it together. ”
Maggie’s is a charity which provides free practical and emotional support for people living with cancer, and everyone who loves them.
Karen MacKinnon, Centre Manager at Maggie’s Dundee said: “We’re absolutely delighted to be supporting Pedal for Pounds with their 24-hour static cycle challenge.
As a charity Maggie’s Dundee relies on donations and fundraising efforts such as Pedal for Pounds which allow us to continue to develop our unique, high quality programme of support, offering the best support possible to people with cancer as well as their family and friends.
Everyone at Maggie’s sends the very best of luck and is hugely thankful to Bruce Whamond and Pedal for Pounds for choosing to support us.”
