Parents and relatives who have lost a child are invited to view NHS Tayside’s virtual service of remembrance on Thursday, 3 December at 7.30pm.
Due to COVID-19, the Children’s Memorial Service which would normally be held in the University of Dundee Chaplaincy is to be held virtually this year. It will be shown on NHS Tayside’s Facebook page and Youtube channel.
NHS Tayside’s Health and Social Care Chaplain, Andrew Bennett said, “This year, due to the pandemic the traditional December Children’s Memorial Service at Ninewells cannot be held as it usually would.
“The staff in NHS Tayside’s Spiritual Care Department were absolutely determined that the Children’s Memorial Service would still be held, acknowledging that it would have to be in a different format this year. Holding the service virtually ensures everyone’s safety.
“I know this service is much valued by parents and family as it provides an opportunity to pause in the run up to Christmas and to have a dedicated space to remember their children and babies who have died. I very much hope that the Children’s Memorial Service this year brings comfort.”
The order of service will closely follow previous years with poetry readings and a dedicated time for reflection and prayer. Parents and families will also be invited to light a candle in memory of their babies and children in the privacy of their own homes.
Each year the Children’s Memorial Service is organised by NHS Tayside Department of Spiritual Care with support from the stillbirth neonatal death charity SANDS.
