Healthy, active and creative fun in the great outdoors!
ANGUSalive Countryside Adventure has an eight week programme of outdoor activities lined up for 5-13 year olds at Monikie Country Park.
Mini Mudders offers 5 to 8 year olds the chance to play and learn some bushcraft skills in the outdoors. Youngsters taking part in this programme will enjoy shelter building, mud kitchens, nature walks, mini beast safari and trail activity.
Junior Outdoor Explorers is a multi-activity course which provides 8 to 13 year olds the chance to gain skills in activities such as mountain biking, bushcraft, fire lighting, orienteering, trail walk/runs and teambuilding.
Nicola Barbour, Outdoor and Physical Lead with ANGUSalive said: “With technology playing a bigger part in everyone’s lives, there’s never been a better time than now to give children and young people the opportunity to be active, play and learn in the great outdoors.
Both these programmes provide a safe outdoor environment for youngsters to learn vital life skills such as teamwork, resilience, decision making and encourage responsible access in the outdoors in an enjoyable way while surrounded by nature.”
A recent study by The Wildlife Trusts*, showed that children’s wellbeing increased after they had spent time connecting with nature. The children also saw educational and wider social and personal benefits.
Professor Michael Reiss, Institute of Education, UCL, was involved with this study and said: “Each generation seems to have less contact with the outdoors than the preceding one. We owe it to all young people to reverse this trend- for their sakes, for our sakes and for nature’s sake.”
Junior Outdoor Explorers takes place on Saturdays from 29 January to 19 March 2022 with Mini Mudders on Sundays from 30 January to 20 March 2022, further information and bookings can be made by visiting www.angusalive.scot/whats-on.
