Angus Schools and Early Learning & Childcare (ELC) Arrangements for the New Year

Following the announcement by the First Minister on Saturday 19 December, Angus Council is making changes to arrangements for the start of term in January. These arrangements are designed to reduce the transmission of Coronavirus (COVID-19).

All schools and school-based nurseries will re-open on Wednesday 6 January only for the children of key workers  and for other children identified by the Head Teacher or ELC Manager. If you think that you qualify for a place, please contact your school directly.

School phone lines are already very busy so if you can, please email your school. You can find a list of school contact email addresses on these links:  Primary Schools and Secondary Schools.

For all other children, the festive holiday will be extended up to Monday 11 January 2021 when online learning will begin, continuing until at least Monday 18 January 2021.

Convener of Children and Learning, Cllr Derek Wann said, “I appreciate that this sudden change to arrangements will be challenging for many families, we must take action to prevent the spread of this new strain of Coronovirus.

“We will continue to support key workers and others with school-based learning which will continue to have stringent hygiene and safety measures in place. Keeping the numbers of children and young people down will also help to improve physical distancing measures.

“I would like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to all the staff involved with Angus Schools and ELC for their extraordinary dedications and professionalism which will deliver the best learning experience we can for our children and young people.”

Director or Schools and Lifelong Learning, Ms Kelly McIntosh said, “Our schools are well placed to deliver a meaningful learning experience for our children and young people, be that in school.

“We have learned from the experience of the first lockdown in March and teachers have refined processes to ensure that our children and young people can continue to learn at home.  Our schools will all be open from Wednesday 6 January for children of key workers and others invited to attend, and online learning will commence from Monday 11 January for all others.”

Families which use other providers of Early Learning and Childcare should contact their provider directly to clarify their arrangements. You can check the Level 4 regulations on childcare on this link:Parent Club Guide to Childcare Level 4.

School meals will be available as usual in schools from Wednesday 6 January 2021. Nursery and Primary lunches should be pre-ordered on iPay as usual. Secondary lunches can be ordered in school by those attending.

Additional payments have been made for children who access free school meals. However, if children attend school, free school meals will still be available.

All school and ASN transport will run as usual.

Breakfast and Out of school clubs will be run at the discretion of the provider so please contact them directly to clarify arrangements
