News from ANGUS COUNCIL
Working to maintain kerbside collections
Our kerbside waste collection service is experiencing significant challenges as a result of issues arising from the Coronavirus Pandemic.
In accordance with Government guidance, Angus Council has advised council employees who can work from home to do so but clearly this is not an option for our waste collection staff.
Nonetheless, our waste collection staff are subject to the same guidance as us all with regards to self-isolation due to underlying health conditions and symptoms of Coronavirus for themselves or others in their household.
Accordingly, staffing levels in our waste collection teams have been affected.
Communities Convener, Cllr Mark Salmond said: “The pandemic is providing challenges for us all at almost every level of society and our kerbside collection service is no exception.
“Our priority is to provide continuity of essential public services wherever we possibly can while, at the same time, trying to ensure the safety and welfare of our staff.
“Staffing levels have been affected, but we fully recognise that our waste collection teams provide a vital service for our communities. So, we are working hard to address these issues so as to ensure that kerbside collections continue.
“I want to thank you for your understanding during what is a challenging time for us all.”
Daily planning aims to ensure all of our collections are completed but we realise the situation remains changeable and unpredictable. If your bin is missed on a scheduled date, please leave it out and we will try to return to empty it.
We have introduced additional staff guidance to try to minimise social contact and enhance hygiene in the workplace that is consistent with guidance from Health Protection Scotland.
Additional cleaning regimes have been introduced at our depots and we would again appeal to residents to follow the guidance we have given concerning the safe disposal of household waste where coronavirus infection is suspected
Please go to our website where we will be regularly updating service information on our Bins and Recycling webpages. Thank you again for your patience and cooperation.
